राजधानी के राजाजीपुरम स्थित रानी लक्ष्मी बाई संयुक्त चिकित्सालय में स्वास्थ्य सेवाएँ पूरी तरह वेंटिलेटर पर हैं। अस्पताल की बदहाली का आलम यह है कि पिछले लगभग 4 महीनों से यहाँ हड्डी रोग विशेषज्ञ (Orthopedic Surgeon) का पद रिक्त पड़ा है, जिससे क्षेत्रीय मरीजों की मुश्किलें दिन-ब-दिन बढ़ती जा रही हैं। हड्डी की चोट या असहनीय दर्द से कराहते हुए जब मरीज ओपीडी पहुँचते हैं, तो उन्हें डॉक्टर न होने का हवाला देकर बेरहमी से वापस लौटा दिया जाता है।
रेफरल सेंटर की भेंट चढ़ रहे गरीब मरीज
अस्पताल में हड्डी के विशेषज्ञ न होने के कारण मामूली चोट या फ्रैक्चर वाले मरीजों को भी सीधे बलरामपुर अस्पताल या केजीएमयू ट्रॉमा सेंटर रेफर कर दिया जाता है। सरकारी सुविधा का लाभ न मिल पाने के कारण आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर मरीजों को मजबूरन निजी नर्सिंग होम का रुख करना पड़ रहा है, जहाँ उनसे इलाज के नाम पर हजारों रुपये वसूले जा रहे हैं।

विडंबना यह है कि अस्पताल परिसर में हड्डी के इलाज से जुड़े जरूरी संसाधन, उपकरण और कक्ष तो पूरी तरह सुसज्जित हैं, लेकिन एक अदद डॉक्टर की नियुक्ति न होने के कारण ये सभी सरकारी मशीनरी सफेद हाथी साबित हो रही हैं। लाखों के उपकरण धूल फांक रहे हैं और जनता इलाज के लिए दर-दर भटक रही है।
